Right side: Original Intellivision master component (designed in 1978)

Left side: Original Intellivision keyboard component (the master component fits inside the keyboard).

16bit CPU: GI semi CP1610

GI semiconductor was sold off in a manager buyout and formed "Microchip Technologies" and continues to this day with a line of PIC microcontrollers based on the original CP1600 design.

Modify your Intellivision Model 2609 for Composite Video / Audio output and get a clean picture.

Intellivision Model 2609

Composite Video and Audio output

NOTE: Perform this mod at your own risk. If you don’t know how to solder, let someone who does do it for you.

This modification disconnects the RF modulator completely.

After this modification you will notice improved visual clarity and audio clarity.

1)      Dissassemble Intellivision (watch where things go, so you can put them back when your done)

2)      Unplug all the cables coming out of the computer board assembly.

3)      Unsolder the top and bottom shield covers from the computer board.

4)      Unsolder the 4 wires coming out of the end of the RF modulator box from the PCB, (You don’t have to remove the RF box itself.)

5)      Locate a group of resistors near the RF box R3, R10, R11, R14, R1 (these are all near the color video chip)

6)      Replace R3 with 4.7k resistor

7)      Remove R11 and Replace R10 with a 2.2k resistor (Leave R11 out)

8)      Replace R14 with 1.5k resistor

9)      Replace R1 with 500 ohm resistor

10)  Solder a wire between Hole 1 and Hole 2 (These holes were left when you removed the RF modulator box wires from them.) Hole 1 is closest to the board edge.

11)  Your new video cable center lead should be soldered to Hole 1 as well.

12)  Your new audio cable center lead should be soldered to Hole 3

13)  The shields can be soldered to the case of the RF box (which is GROUND)

14)  Plug back all the cables and test on your TV before reassembling unit

15)  If the colors are off adjust C2

16)  Now, put back shield covers and reassemble unit.

You may need to change the resistor values slightly if your TV composite input needs more signal

(the resistors chosen above were just values I happed to have on hand)
